Rewards offered: Total of $10,000 for information leading to arrest in arson fire that killed two

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Investigators are working to determine who is responsible for a fire that killed two people and destroyed a Milwaukee home. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives  (ATF) is now offering a reward up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the fire that occurred near 38th and Wright on April 17th. This is in addition to another $5,000 reward being offered by the Wisconsin Arson Insurance Council.

When firefighters first arrived on the scene shortly after 3 a.m., flames were showing on the first and second floors of the home. At the same time, firefighters heard explosions coming from inside the building. It was later determined there were numerous oxygen tanks inside the building. The fire spread to a second home.

Michea Sampson, Dontray Jones

The victims who died have been identified as 25-year-old Michea Sampson and 28-year-old Dontray Jones. Witnesses say it took just seconds for the flames to spread throughout the first floor of the home. One witness believes the home was targeted, and she says she’s now worried about her own safety.

"I relive it every time I close my eyes. Just -- I see the fire. All I see is fire. It's very overwhelming," Candice Singleton said.

Singleton says not only did the arson fire claim two lives, it claimed nearly all of her possessions and her home.

"I've never been through anything like this before. Whoever did it needs to be caught," Singleton said.

The ATF and the Wisconsin Arson Insurance Council are each offering rewards in the hopes that happens soon.

This, as Singleton says she's happy to have some help as she and her son try to move forward.

"Family, friends, Zulima's been calling and checking on me," Singleton said.

Candice Singleton & Zulima Mulgado

Zulima Mulgado is with "Another Hand," the charitable component of West Allis' Fire Recovery.

"You need it, we can get it for you," Mulgado said.

Mulgado says Another Hand has been tapping into its network of non-profits in an effort to help.

"We kinda call each other, 'hey, I have a family that needs this. We have a family that needs this. Do you have this for them?'" Mulgado said.

Mulgado is heping Singleton to pick up the pieces and put her life back together.

"Who do you go to when you don't have anything? Are there other non-profits just ready to give you free furniture because they have it stored in the back office? No. They don`t. But we do," Mulgado said.

In addition to thanking Mulgado, Singleton says her church has been instrumental in helping her to climb out of what she describes as a fire-induced depression.

Mulgado has established a GoFundMe account to raise money for herself and her son.

FOX6 News has learned of a memorial fund established for Dontray Jones. Donations can be made to the Dontray Jones Memorial Fund at any Chase Bank branch.
