MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Milwaukee police say a 41-year-old man was killed while riding his motorcycle when he crashed into an oncoming vehicle near S. 13th and W. Dakota Street. The man has been identified as Robert Tolbert.

The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night, May 2nd.

Authorities say Tolbert was operating a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling northbound on S. 13th when he struck a 1999 Chysler which was traveling westbound on Dakota.

The driver of the Chrysler was a 34-year-old Milwaukee man who remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Authorities say Tolbert was not wearing a helmet and died on scene from his injuries despite the efforts of the Milwaukee Fire Department.

Police say alcohol was not a factor in this accident.

The circumstances surrounding this accident are currently under investigation.

FOX6 News has a crew en-route to the scene and will update when more information is available.

Why is it reported not wearing a helmet??? Do they report not wearing a seat belt? Not a law unless on a new license. Sure S–t happens. Almost always caused by someone pulling out on you. , Or kids with a death wish driving ike idiots on a donor cycle. I have 300,000 miles on a Harley. I watch every car near me. Most motorcycle deaths are young idiots.

I ride Sportbikes, and actually I am more responsible than 90 percent of riders out there. But the fact is that people who don’t wear helmets are idiots. It increases the likelihood to die on a motorcycle by about 95 percent if you don’t wear one. Also, accidents happen… gravel, wet paint, brakes lock up… anything can happen and all it takes is one person to rear end you and have your head slam into the hood… Exactly what happened to me, but I was wearing a helmet…I have almost no sympathy for riders who wear no helmets. They don’t deserve respect at all.

Dress for the slide yooper, not the ride.

Wow, “increases the likelihood to die on a motorcycle by 95 percent if you don’t wear one” . Do you have a source on that?

If I have to wear my seatbelt while I am in a car surrounded by sheet metal and airbags because it is the law and I will get a ticket. How come people on Motorcycles do not need helmets?

Because in Wisconsin – the birthplace of Harley – it is not cool to wear helmets. I have to tell you though, I have been riding since I was 12 and never got on a bike without a helmet. It is the only protection you have.

Exactly… I hate that it is a mentality that no helmet equals cool. I have been riding sport bikes for 4 years and I have always worn a helmet. I hate to say it, but it is not the sport bike community that is irresponsible… My experience is that the cruiser and touring guys never wear helmets. It’s sad.

Did you fools ever hear of freedom of choice? If I want to wear a helmet I will, and if I don’t choose to I won’t. Who are your or some ignorant politician to tell me to wear it or pay a fine? I wear a helmet in the rain or when it’s cold, but a helmet on a 95 degree day could give you heat stroke!

wow…. Really? Freedom of choice? All you ever hear is how no one watches out for motorcycles and everyone has to be aware of them. I can’t stand seeing people ride without a helmet, and then they think they are special, speeding around cars, cutting people off and driving like idiots because they have a different vehicle. Then it’s such a tragedy when one of them gets hit and hurt really bad because they weren’t wearing a helmet. I’m always watching out for motorcycles because their drivin scares me.

I’m his cousin and Im wondering why an update has not been put in the paper. At least saying his name so his friends that our family does not know can be notified of bobby’s death..

Thanks for telling us that he wasn’t wearing a helmet, but don’t give ANY pertinent facts as to the cause of the crash. This type of reportage is worthless and biased!

I’ve been riding for 45 or so years. I’ve been in 3 motorcycle accidents, all involving inattentive drivers. One driver was sent to the hospital where she was treated multiple injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt. In all of the accidents (two of which my bike was totaled) I was not wearing a helmet. A cousin of mine was killed in a motorcycle accident. My cousin was wearing a helmet and died of a broken neck. I wear a full face helmet in cold weather and when it’s raining.
If your time is up,,, it’s up.
