Does Ted Perry have what it takes to be a nurse? He gives it a try in celebration of "Nurses Week"

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Nurses are the heroes of healthcare, and they're not always appreciated for their service. May 6th through the 12th is National Nurses Week, and it's a chance to celebrate the role nurses play in delivering the highest level of quality care to their patients.

FOX6's Ted Perry and Victor Ordonez nursing

FOX6's Ted Perry had the opportunity to learn a little bit about what it takes to be a nurse on Monday, May 4th. Perry and Victor Ordonez, an Oak Creek firefighter took part in the simulation.

Ordonez works with nurses occasionally in emergency situations, but he's never dealt with patients like he did on Monday.

"It's definitely difficult! It gives me greater appreciation for what nurses do," Ordonez said. "I`m going to stick with what I`m doing."

As for Perry -- he's been anchoring the news on FOX6 for 22 years -- and he says he's never done anything like what he did Monday.

It's hard work, and nurses do it every day. To highlight all they do, GE Healthcare challenged five members of the community to see if they have what it takes to be a nurse. It was all captured by Plum Moving Media.

Rachel Maciejewski

"It`s fun! Definitely most of them shouldn`t quit their day jobs -- but they`re good sports about it!" Rachel Maciejewski said.

Maciejewski has been a nurse for 13 years.

"I love it! Can't imagine doing anything else," Maciejewski said.

She is one of the millions of nurses that during the course of a day, lift 1.8 TONS and take 10,000 steps -- walking about four miles a day.

"You don`t realize what you have done or haven`t done, because you just make it happen," Maciejewski said.

She says she wouldn't change what she does for anything.

"It`s all I know, and it`s all I want to know," Maciejewski said.

The completed "Like a Nurse" video is expected to be released on May 7th.
