8th graders consider their future, teachers "want them to start that exploration journey"

MENOMONEE FALLS (WITI) -- If you ask middle school students what they want to be when they grow up, many aren't quite sure. But some in Menomonee Falls got a little help from the community in choosing. Wednesday, May 6th was Career Day for the 8th graders at North Middle School.

From cosmetologists to chiropractors, experts from more than 20 area businesses gave students a lesson in their trade. Hoping to inspire these young minds to get into their field.

"We don`t expect them to make a decision about careers today, but we want them to start that exploration journey," said 8th grade guidance counselor Jeanne Tremelling.

The goal of the event is to help students identify their likes and dislikes in various trades and to understand the different educational paths which will lead them to different careers.

"We want them to pick classes that are part of their interest, so that can help them decide if this is an area they want to go into," said Tremelling.

Wednesday's Career Day is just one of several "career exploration" activities throughout the school year. Educators at North Middle School say they plan to host a career planning night for families later this month.
