Suspect arrested, accused of firing shots at group of teens tells police he did it "to scare them"

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police have arrested a suspect accused of firing shots into a crowd last Thursday night, May 7th.

It happened outside a fast food restaurant on Milwaukee's north side.

Police were called out to the 7400 block of W. Appleton Avenue just after 10:00 p.m. last Thursday for a report of shots fired.

There, police spoke with an employee who said a suspect had confronted a group of teenagers inside the restaurant and then chased them outside. Then, two shots were fired at the group before the suspect fled the scene.

Two 9mm casings were recovered in the parking lot.

Responding officers noticed a man on a motorcycle in the 7400 block of W. Beckett Avenue who matched the description of the suspect. The 30-year-old Milwaukee man was taken into custody and a 9mm handgun was found in a bag on his motorcycle.

During an interview with investigators, the suspect confessed to shooting the gun to try and scare the teenagers.

MPD will present charges to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
