Expecting mother bats off rabid fox with 6-year-old son's book bag

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WITI) -- A pregnant mother fought off a rabid fox that tried attacking her and her 6-year-old in the front yard of their North Carolina home.

According to WTVD, Ashley Kotchetov used her son's book bag to fight off the fox that started attacking them while walking to their car.

Kotchetov is expected to give birth next week, according to the TV station that reported the attack.

Kotchetov and her son barricaded themselves on top of their truck for about 15 minutes while the fox chewed on her son's book bag.

The two were not bitten during the attack, but the mother says she came in contact with the fox's saliva left on the bag.

Now, Kotchetov is undergoing treatment for rabies. She said her doctor told her she was at greater risk for getting rabies, than the vaccine hurting her unborn child.

Residents throughout the neighborhood are being warned of the fox attack.
