KEWASKUM (WITI) — Kewaskum Police Department responded to a fatal traffic accident near Fond du Lac Avenue and Clinton Street Sunday evening, May 24th.

Authorities say they were dispatched to the scene involving one vehicle with two passengers at approximately 8:43 p.m.  The vehicle had left the roadway and struck a Citgo gas station sign located at 1149 Fond du Lac Avenue in Kewaskum.

Upon arrival, police say the driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old woman from Kewaskum, was unresponsive. Life saving efforts were unsuccessful and the woman succumbed to her injuries.

Police say the passenger of the vehicle, a 22-year-old Campbellsport woman, was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

According to officials, it appears that a medical issue with the 22-year-old driver led to the accident. Neither alcohol or drugs are believed to be a factor in this crash.

It also appears that the driver of the vehicle was not wearing a seat belt.

The Kewaskum Police Department was assisted by the Kewaskum Fire Department along with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene at the request of Chief Bishop.
