Get a sneak peek inside the Breast Cancer Show House before it opens to the public

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- There are many houses along Lake Drive that people would love to peek inside, and now they can .

Starting this weekend the doors to one home will open to the public as it's serving as the 2015 Breast Cancer Show House.

"Everybody knows a relative, a friend, a neighbor that has breast cancer. So we really want to work very hard to irradiate this terrible disease," said Breast Cancer Show House Spokesperson Linda Short.

The money from the Breast Cancer Show House helps both breast cancer and prostate cancer.

Throughout its 18 years, this event has raised nearly $4.5 million.

"All of the proceeds that we raise throughout our several events go to the Medical College of Wisconsin for research," said Short.

Selected designers donate their time and resources to make over each room in the home.

"You just make every effort because you know the results are going to be amazing and the cause is amazing," said John Edbauer of Fringe Interior Design.

This year's show house is a Tuscan-style home, which was built in 2004.

Its modern style required designers to work together.

"Especially in an open concept like this house, there are not a lot of doors so everything has to flow together. You can`t have purple stripes in one room and polka dots in another room," said Short.

As guests tour the home they can feel good knowing they're making a difference.

"1 out of 8 women has breast cancer and unfortunately the number of men that have prostate cancer is rising every year," said Short.

The Breast Cancer Show House runs May 30th - June 14th.

Tickets are $25 at the door.
