Waukesha police investigating after female inmate from Waukesha County Jail pronounced dead

WAUKESHA -- Waukesha County Sheriff's officials are investigating the death of an inmate at the Waukesha County Jail that occurred on Monday, June 1st.

At approximately 4:00 a.m., deputies and members of the Waukesha Fire Department responded to the Waukesha County Jail for a report of a female inmate who was not breathing and did not have a pulse.

The 53-year-old New Berlin woman was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say the woman was arrested on Saturday, May 30th after a Waukesha County Sheriff's deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The woman was arrested for a warrant and subsequent drug charge.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.

The Waukesha Police Department is handling this investigation.
