According to Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn, two plain-clothed Wauwatosa police detectives and one uniformed Wauwatosa police officer confronted Harmon shortly after 9 a.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex near 60th and Good Hope Road.

At that time, Harmon opened fire — striking one of the officers. Chief Flynn said at least one Wauwatosa officer returned fire before he fled the scene on foot.

In the air by helicopter and by foot on the ground, dozens of officers and K9 units are scouring the area searching for Harmon. He is described as a male, black, in his mid 20s, with a thin build and a long pony tail. He was last seen wearing black pants and a dark shirt.

Police are unsure if the suspect was wounded.

After several hours of searching near 60th and Good Hope, police still did not locate Harmon. They were then led to 12th and Keefe Avenue around 5 p.m. Friday evening. Police located a vehicle Harmon is believed to have stolen back on June 16th.

Officers tried for several hours to make contact with Harmon and anyone inside the home.

Tactical units eventually went inside, gas was deployed but police did not locate Harmon.

Authorities will remain in the area.

"The public has got to be alert and report suspicious information to 911," said Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn. "This suspect is armed and extremely dangerous."

Chief Flynn said a 52-year-old Wauwatosa police officer with 25 years of service was injured. He was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery.

Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber spoke to the public at 3 p.m. and said the officer was shot one time and is in "serious but stable condition." Although the injury was more serious than first thought, they are optimistic for a full recovery.

Police are asking that the community stays on alert and if you come across Harmon, do not approach him -- you are asked to call 911.

A Wauwatosa cop can investigate a crime commited in Wauwatosa. The investigation took the officer to Milwaukee,’
Use the space between your ears people.

I hope they find him soon & I hope he doesn’t hurt anyone else. Prayers for the officers that they all go home to their families today.

It hasn’t been proven that the shooter ‘hates Cops’. Maybe he just feels better when they’re not around. Either way the price to pay for shooting a LEO shouldn’t have different costs depending on the circumstances. Shoot at a cop, go directly to jail.

And somehow making a joke about this makes your point? Making fun of the fact that 9 people were killed yesterday because they were black, and using this situation to deny that what we really have is a serious racial problem in this nation…. shows your lack of character and intelligence…. that’s about it. Ignorance is what is killing this nation..

I’m talking about locally. Not these staged hoaxes that are conveyed as National tragedies To push agendas, mainly gun control.

Locally, a man is shot minding his own business, there is not 4 hour blocks of media coverage to find his attacker.

The police are the biggest, baddest and for the most part the most untouchable gang there is .today’s event just supports this claim. Wound one of ours and we’re gonna lock down the streets, take over the (already corrupt beyond repair) media, and fly in helicopters from other states to find you.

Is it Unfortunate that this MAN was shot? Yes. Does it deserve the attention that it is receiving? No way in hell!

Our society is 4ucked, we need to stand up to our corrupt police force and our corrupt government. Democrat or Republican, it’s all the same. It’s there to divide our nation and give us a false sense that we as citizens have a choiceand a voice. Sit back and let all of our rights and freedoms be stripped away from right under our noses.

Do not hold this man of a higher value of you and I. It’s meaningless, and it will be him and his buddies kicking in your teeth next time you stand up for your rights.

It’s past a black and white thing at this point. The racial divide is being created by the media!

Wake the 4uck up people. The only way we can stop this is let it known that we know what is going on. We can’t do that when the majority is still asleep.

Oh okay, so because he was investigating a man for burglary and then got shot, they’re not supposed to use their resources to find him? It would be the same case if it were anyone else and you know it. It’s not like the man up and shot a copy and ran off, he was already under investigation – all the more reason to take precaution and do what it takes to find him. Use your head.

Have you seen the rate people have been killed this year and had 5 diffrent organizations looking for the person who did it, useing air support from another state, FBI, ATF, MPD, WPD………We are worlds apart. Open your eyes and use common sense, Common Sense. We are equal, cops are equal with us, all people are equal. So why not use all these resources for all who are killed or wounded to bring the suspect into justice?

And more parents who raise their children to obey rules instead of neglecting them/raising them to be oppositionally defiant towards rules.

  • Sickofignorant people

So you’re comparing that actions of a thug off the street to that of a cop sworn to uphold the law? Once you can comprehend the difference between the two we can have a discussion

    • Rob

I am not comparing cops to thugs, nor am I saying that we should do less then what we are capable of doing. We should do the same everytime, if it is a cop that is shot or a child, or a doctor, or a garbage collector.

He wasn’t alone. There were 3 total officers at the scene. Two of them were plain clothes detectives. The third was a uniformed officer. They were investigating one guy alone in a parking lot.

So if the President gets shot it should be turned over to local police depatrments homicide division? The police department is a brethren of officers with the same goal to stop and prevent crime. When one of their brothers is shot you can bet they will band together and find the culprit.

  • weizer2

You seemed to have made a lot of posts about this considering you have better things to attend to.

It is hard to have the understanding that there are thoes who see life as meaningless, and take it with out regarding what it is they take that will never come back. So doing all we can to stop it may not take it far enough. Yet we should never cross the line that we as Americans are equal if we fight and die for this idea to be true. We should do all we can for anyone that has fell victom to this manner of violence to bring there criminal to justice, without crossing a boundry that we are not equal.

Because the cops are the only ones who run towards gunfire rather than away. They are the only ones who will respond when you are being attacked. If someone can shoot at a cop they can and will shoot at anyone. Yes the cops respond stronger when one of their own are shot. Why, because there is no one after them to do so. They are the last fence between you and the thugs. Plus they are a family, guess you can’t understand that.

  • Frank

That would be national news, it may even get a press conference from the president.
A white guy shot by a black cop isn’t news, and a black man shooting a white cop seems to be considered racist to report, this one doesn’t show up on Yahoo consolidated news feeds.

    @Wilson:

My post is a bit here and there, but it doesn’t make any of it less than true.

Do you care to elaborate on your response? Really shows your mental capacity if the only way you know how to refute something is saying that you disagree and then resort to insults.

The 3 LOE’s need to go back to the firing range and re-qualify… Should have got him center mass or at least in the rear end as he ran!
