New shopping opportunities: Meijer opens two Wisconsin stories, more to come

GRAFTON -- Meijer opened its first two Wisconsin stores in Grafton and Kenosha on Tuesday morning, June 23rd.

The Grafton store was the first to open in the Badger State -- which made Village President Jim Brunquell very happy.

"So people will say, 'oh, yeah. That's right. They had it in Grafton first,'" said Brunquell.

Meijer has 219 stores in five states plus Wisconsin.

"This is a big, big deal for us and for our company to open our doors for the first time in Wisconsin," said Hank Meijer, Meijer co-chairman.


 

 

 

Meijer is a family-owned, privately-held company based in Michigan. It began as a grocery store and places great emphasis on fresh produce, meats and seafood. But now, it's so much more.

"It really is the birth of one-stop shopping. Meijer opened the first supercenters in the U.S. in 1962 and you know, we've worked since then to try to make it better and deliver the greatest experience we can for every community that we serve," said J.K. Symancyk, Meijer president.
