Medical Examiner: Victim at Kosciuszko Park lagoon died from asphyxia due to drowning

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office says 54-year-old Alejandro Rodriguez-Estrella died from asphyxia due to drowning at the Kosciuszko Park lagoon on Saturday, June 27th.

Rodriguez-Estrella and his friend were swimming across the lagoon when they apparently ran into trouble near the middle of the pond -- and went under water. The medical examiner's report says "citizens observed the two men struggling and go under. Alejandro was pulled out of the pond by citizens and was on the shore when police arrived."

Officers reported the water was about five feet deep where the men had been swimming -- and "the bottom was very mucky."

The medical examiner's report also indicates the two men had been riding bicycles -- and the child carriers on those bikes "contained empty beer cans and other liquor."
