Valerie Harper hospitalized after falling ill before performance



OGUNQUIT, Maine -- Actress Valerie Harper, known for her roles in “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and the spin-off “Rhoda,” was reportedly hospitalized Wednesday evening after being found unconscious backstage prior to a performance of her musical "Nice Work If You Can Get It" at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Ogunquit, Maine.

Harper suffered a "health emergency" prior to the show and was taken away by ambulance, according to Entertainment Tonight.

The audience was informed the actress had fallen ill and would not be performing.

The Ogunquit Playhouse issued a statement on Thursday, saying Harper is "resting comfortably" and will remain in the hospital for observation.

"Valerie Harper was taken to a local hospital as a precaution before her July 29 evening performance of Nice Work If You Can Get It, at the Ogunquit Playhouse, after reporting that she was not feeling well. She is resting comfortably and will remain in the hospital for observation for the time being."


Harper has been performing in the production as Millicent Winter along with Sally Struthers as Duchess Estonia Dulworth.

Harper was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in 2013.
