WAUKESHA COUNTY -- A Waukesha County Sheriff's Deputy's gun went off in a struggle with a man at the Waukesha County Juvenile Center on Monday afternoon, August 17th.

Officials say just before 3 p.m., the deputy assigned to the juvenile center was involved in a struggle with a 34-year-old man from Hartland who was there for a court hearing.

Waukesha County Sheriff Eric Severson  says the man attempted to disarm the deputy. It was during that struggle the deputy's gun went off. Two shots were fired -- and one bullet went into the man's leg.

During a news conference on Monday evening, Severson gave a vague answer when asked who actually fired the gun.

"I'm not discussing that at this point," said Severson.

Deputies at the juvenile center provided medical aid to the man -- and he was taken to Froedtert Hospital for treatment.

Officials say the deputy involved in this incident is 44 years old -- and a 16-year veteran of the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department. He will be placed on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing -- this is standard procedure.

There are no other suspects involved in this incident -- and the incident was isolated within the juvenile center.

Because this is an officer-involved shooting, an outside agency, in this case the Waukesha Police Department, will be handling the investigation.

Hopefully the gunshot some how kills him. We don’t need this type of criminal element in society. When they attack a law officer you know they would kill us in a heart beat!
