Local celebrities, veterans golf at River Club of Mequon to raise money for Fisher House Wisconsin

MEQUON -- With cooler temps and no precipitation in the forecast, it was a perfect day for some golf Monday, August 24th. Some hit the links to raise money for Fisher House Wisconsin.

Fisher House Wisconsin's third annual golf outing was held Monday at the River Club of Mequon.

Former Packers kicker Chris Jacke and Brewers TV announcer Davey Nelson were just some of the celebrities who golfed with veterans.

The Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans' families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment.

"They may be there for treatment for weeks, months, six months -- whatever it is, there's no cost to the families to stay there and it's important that our families are with them when they're getting treated and going through the healing process," John Quinette with Fisher House Wisconsin said.

The Milwaukee Fisher House will be just over 13,000 square feet inside with 16 bedroom suites capable of accommodating up to eight people per suite. Its warm and comfortable interior will be professionally decorated and beautifully furnished. Functionally, guests and their families will have access to well stocked kitchens and inviting living rooms, complete with a library and toys for children. Highly trained staff and caring volunteers are available to assist all Fisher House guests.

The Milwaukee Fisher House is under construction at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center. The hope is that it will be finished before the end of the year.
