27-year-old man arrested after high-speed pursuit, suspected of DUI, third offense

NEW BERLIN -- New Berlin police say a high-speed pursuit and subsequent "high-risk traffic stop" led to the arrest of a 27-year-old man for DUI.

Shortly before 4:00 p.m., police were made aware of a reckless driving complaint on I-43NB near Highway 83 -- near the Town of Mukwonago.

Two separate callers reported a vehicle driving erratically and at speeds in excess of 100 miles-per-hour.

The vehicle entered the city of New Berlin and was observed by an officer near Moorland Road.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it failed to stop -- continuing northbound on I-43.

A pursuit continued, and the suspect lowered the vehicle's speed to 55 miles-per-hour, but he still wasn't stopping the vehicle.

The vehicle finally stopped when several squads were following on I-43 at 124th Street.

A "high-risk traffic stop" ensued.

Police say a language barrier hindered arrest efforts which were improved with the arrival of the police K-9 officer and a Spanish speaking officer.

The suspect was eventually taken into custody without incident.

The suspect is a 27 year-old man -- suspected of third offense driving while under the influence.

No one was injured during this incident.
