Salvation Army officials say "thank you" as Feed the Kids summer meal program ends for season

MILWAUKEE -- The Salvation Army’s Feed The Kids summer meals program served 83,776 lunches this summer.

“Thank you to volunteers and supporters for donating time and resources to this year’s summer meal program,” said Major Dan Jennings, Salvation Army Divisional Commander for Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.

Feed The Kids is a summer meal program designed to meet the needs of children in Milwaukee’s poorest neighborhoods.  Salvation Army vans take lunch meals to neighborhoods, parks and street corners to serve to area children Monday through Friday for 10 weeks.

For 150 years The Salvation Army has been providing meals to children. In 2014 The Salvation Army provided 127,671 lunches through the Feed the Kids summer meals program.

The Salvation Army works with the Hunger Task Force, Milwaukee Public Schools, West Allis/West Milwaukee School District, Milwaukee Center for Independence, Boys & Girls Clubs, Social Development Commission and Heartlove Place.
