ShotSpotter alerts officers to shots fired, 35-year-old Milwaukee man arrested

MILWAUKEE --  ShotSpotter technology helped officers from District 5 arrest a convicted felon with a gun on the Milwaukee’s north side.

ShotSpotter, a gunfire locator system that pinpoints precise locations from which gunshots were fired, alerted officers to a shots fired near 27th and Hopkins on Friday, August 28th at about 10:00 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they observed a man who appeared to be placing a handgun into his pocket while walking away from the shots fired area.  Upon seeing the police, the suspect ran into a nearby yard.

Officers arrested the suspect and located a 9mm handgun in his pocket.   The cartridges in the suspect’s gun matched the casings that were recovered at the shots fired scene.

The suspect, who is a 35- year-old Milwaukee man, is a convicted felon and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or another substance.  The man later spit onto an officer while being processed.

The case will be presented to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for charges.
