Latest: Wisconsin officer who killed biracial man back on duty

MADISON — A Madison police officer who killed an unarmed biracial man has returned to duty.

Matt Kenny shot Tony Robinson in an apartment house stairwell in March. Kenny said Robinson started swinging at him as he was coming up the stairs to investigate sounds of a disturbance. Witnesses said Robinson, who was high on mushrooms, had been running in traffic and assaulted two people.

Prosecutors cleared Kenny of any criminal wrongdoing in May. An internal police investigation found he violated no policies in early June.

A police spokesman says Kenny, who had been on paid leave, has returned to work with the training and mounted patrol units. He says none of Kenny's duties involve patrols. He said Kenny's leave day was June 10 but didn't know when Kenny returned to work.
