Take a closer look: Police hope distinctive backpack could lead to tips in teen's death

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police hope a distinctive backpack will help lead to new tips in the shooting death of a teenager earlier this summer.

18-year-old Angelo Young was shot and killed near Garfield Avenue and Palmer Street around 11:40 p.m. on July 21st. Former classmates describe Young as a model student who was always on time. They say he'd volunteer to read, and they call him  a young man headed for success.

A gunman ended Young's life during a robbery. Now, police are sharing pictures of a backpack they say is similar to the one Young had the night of his murder.

That backpack was believed to be a black, gray and silver Element Mohave backpack. The backpack (like the one pictured) and property inside it have yet to be recovered.

Police say the backpack may have contained an iPhone 6 with ear buds, silver headphones, and an Educators Credit Union card. Authorities hope the picture of the backpack will job the memory of someone who may be a witness -- and not have known it until now.

FOX6 News asked Milwaukee police why, after more than a month, they were sharing the picture of the backpack. Officials said investigations are complex -- and police release details of an open case only when investigators deem they should.

The suspect vehicle in this case is described as a dark-colored, 1997-1999 Chevrolet Suburban. Anyone with information is asked to call Milwaukee police at 414-935-7411.
