Scary morning for some at Indianapolis Zoo after "Pounce" the cheetah escaped enclosure

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Zoo was on lockdown Sunday morning, September 6th after a cheetah escaped its exhibit.

WXIN reports visitors at the zoo were told to seek shelter around 9:30 a.m. The visitors were told a cheetah had escaped.

Zoo officials say a male cheetah left an outdoor yard and moved into landscaping directly adjacent to the yard:

WXIN reports after the cheetah was darted and sedated, it jumped back down into its exhibit and was unconscious in three minutes.

No one was hurt.

The four-year-old male cheetah, named Pounce, is new to the Indianapolis Zoo and came from the San Diego Zoo with his brother, Zephyr, according to WXIN.
