Police investigate 'suspicious' death of Waukesha man, neighbors say, "It's sad"

WAUKESHA -- Investigators are actively following up on leads surrounding the 'suspicious' death of a man in Waukesha. Police aren't saying much at this point -- except to say they are waiting for the medical examiner to determine the cause of death.

Officers along with fire department personnel responded around 7:15 p.m. on Monday, September 14th to a call for service at a residence near Wisconsin and Maple in Waukesha.  When they arrived on the scene, officials found a 45-year-old man dead inside his one-bedroom apartment.

According to friends, the victim apparently had a history of medical conditions. Some believe he may have had an epileptic seizure.

However, police launched a large investigation -- searching for evidence of a crime. The house where the man was found was roped off with police tape.

"I was hanging out with him about a month ago. He wanted to live. He was working on art. He was a good guy. Just a shock to me and it's sad," said Dave Moore.

Moore says the victim won awards for his paintings of wildlife. Those who knew him say he struggled with mental illness and anxiety. But no one knows who would want to harm him.

Waukesha police are working in cooperation with the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office and Medical Examiner’s Office in this investigation. The Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
