"It was what we call a frog choker:" Southeast Wisconsin braces for second night of soaking rains



MILWAUKEE -- The 'rain, rain' did 'go away,' but it is coming back later today. Storms expected on Friday evening, September 18th has had folks in parts of southeastern Wisconsin scrambling to prepare.

In Wheatland, near Salem and Silver Lake areas, the hot topic is the high water expected after tonight's rain rolls in.

It's both 'the calm before the storm.'

"Make sure your sump pumps are working, have a back-up sump pump," said Patty Banwart, Kenosha County.

And after...

"It was what we call a 'frog choker,'" said Banwart.

Friday, September 18th in Kenosha County, Patty Banwart's water feature flow is just a trickle compared to what came through overnight.

"This tank was empty last night. Both of these were just completely bone dry. I think it's the most rain we've gotten in one time down here," said Banwart.

"Down here," is not far from the Fox River.

"We've been here 25 years," said Banwart.

In the town of Wheatland in Kenosha County, folks are getting ready for more rainfall on Friday night.

"Where we usually ride the horses, that track, a lot of water has drained out but it looked like a lake. What's concerning us is more coming -- but so far, so good. The basement's dry. We're not in a flood zone. I feel bad for the folks behind us," said Banwart.

Folks are hustling to higher ground in an effort to protect their belongings by moving them far away from the water.

Friday night, FOX6 News is told the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department will be monitoring the area for any Fox River related flooding.
