"His will to survive is strong:" Kitten left for dead saved by Racine children

RACINE -- A tiny kitten is lucky to be alive after being found in a paper bag with two deceased siblings, reports the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS).

“Miracle” was discovered by a group of children walking along Prospect Avenue in Racine on Monday, September 7. The children were walking down the sidewalk when one of the kids kicked a paper bag on the ground and to their surprise, out rolled a kitten.

Inside the bag was a gruesome discovery – the three kittens were covered in feces and two kittens were already dead. The Racine Police Department was called by an adult passerby and an officer was dispatched to get the tiny survivor to safety.

“Little Miracle is just five weeks old, but his will to survive is strong,” reports Angela Speed, vice president of communications at the Wisconsin Humane Society. “He is currently in foster care with one of our employees, who is providing round-the-clock care to make sure he grows up big and strong.”

Donations are currently being solicited on Miracle’s behalf to cover the cost of his medical care. To make a donation, visit www.wihumane.org or call (414) 431-6270. The Wisconsin Humane Society isn’t part of any national umbrella group and relies on the support of the community to fund medical care and adoption services for thousands of animals like Miracle.

“Although Miracle won’t be available for adoption for several weeks, we currently have more than one hundred kittens and cats up for adoption,” Speed said, “so we hope his story will inspire others to take the plunge and become their own hero to a homeless animal.
