Carlos Santana is NOT dead, despite social media rumors

To paraphrase Mark Twain: Reports of Carlos Santana's death have been greatly exaggerated.

Social media briefly lit up on Wednesday (Sept. 30) with word that the legendary rock guitarist had died. The report seems to have originated from a Canadian talk show host for CBC named Chris Walker, who tweeted "Report of Carlos Santana's death comes from people with direct knowledge of the situation." That tweet has since been deleted.

Zap2it spoke with a representative of Santana's agent, who says: "We haven't heard any details. We have no comment."

Then, the truth came out and fans were relieved. Over on Facebook, the musician's official page posted: "From Team Santana: Carlos is alive and well and enjoying his morning! Thank you all for your concern, but the reports of his passing are false."

Soon after, Walker posted "Carlos Santana is very much alive," and then tweeted out an apology.

The 68-year-old Santana rose to fame in the '60s an '70s as a guitar pioneer who blended Latin and American rock music. Winner of 10 Grammy Awards, the Mexican-American artist has released multiple albums as both a solo artist and with his band Santana. Known for such hits as "Black Magic Woman," "Evil Ways" and the Rob Thomas collaboration "Smooth," Santana was picked in 2003 by Rolling Stone magazine as the 15th greatest guitarist of all time.
