"I was shocked to hear:" Domino's Pizza employee shot, wounded during attempted robbery

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating an armed robbery and shooting that occurred at the Domino's Pizza restaurant located at 712 W. Wisconsin Avenue. Police were called to the scene just after midnight on Thursday, October 1st.

Police say an employee, a 36-year-old Milwaukee man, was shot during the attempted armed robbery. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, and is expected to survive.

The store franchisee tells FOX6 News two people were working at the time of the incident. He says they take precautions against this type of activity -- like keeping limited amounts of money in the store.

Some folks say this is typically a safe area, and they were surprised to hear of the shooting.

"It's really scary to know that shootings can happen right where you stay at, right around the corne. It's really frightening," said Andre Manassa, lives nearby.

Manassa lives on 6th Street. He walks past the Domino's everyday.

"I usually feel safe because nothing has happened in the three years I've been down here, but this is the first time someone has actually gotten shot this close to where I live," said Manassa.

Robert Pack owns Stein's Jewelry right next door. On Thursday, they got a visit from police looking for surveillance video.

"Trying to isolate some footage. I don't have any outside cameras, so they thought maybe if someone had run by, maybe a couple of the cameras would have caught it," said Pack.

Pack says in the past 14 years he's worked in this location and nothing like this has ever happened.

"Have never had a problem. I was shocked to hear," said Pack.

The Domino's is back open. Its franchisee released this statement:

MPD is currently seeking the suspect.

Milwaukee police say Wisconsin's Crime Information Bureau is heading this investigation.
