Deputies find corn stalks hanging from school bus; driver cited for OWI, accused of driving off road

TOWN OF WATERFORD -- Racine County Sheriff's officials say a school bus driver is facing several citations, including OWI first offense following an incident on Tuesday afternoon, October 6th.

It happened around 2:15 p.m. in the Town of Waterford.

At that time, the Racine County Communications Center received a 911 call indicating a school bus drove off the roadway into a cornfield and then came back out onto the road and continued driving on Buena Park Road.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched and deputies learned that the bus was owned by S & J Bus Services Inc. out of Waterford.

Deputies learned that the bus driver was still on his route and students were on the bus.

The bus driver was ordered to pull over and stop on State Highway 11 near County Highway J in the Town of Burlington -- with pieces of corn stalks hanging from its undercarriage.

The bus driver was identified as 38-year-old Jason Stalbaum of Burlington.

Deputies found that there were still two students on the bus.

Contact was made with all of the students that were on the bus during the accident, four in total, and no one was injured.

Stalbaum was arrested and issued citations for:
