Obregon manhunt: Kenosha County crop harvest could expose clues to find homicide suspect

KENOSHA COUNTY -- Still no sign of homicide suspect Andrew Obregon in Kenosha County. He was last spotted Tuesday, October 6th in Brighton, when he led deputies on a high-speed chase.

FOX6 News spoke with a woman who lives in Brighton, she says she first heard the sirens speeding by around 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

The high-speed car chase was happening right on her farm through buildings and equipment -- leading out to the pastures and the fields. She says Obregon knows the land well, as he used to go on it often. She says since then, things have been tense for her. She is definitely more aware of what's going on.

It started at the Kenosha Police Department, with a missing persons report for Tywon Anderson. When Anderson's body was found in a Kenosha County cornfield, the investigation was handed off to the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department.

Now, it appears it's come full circle -- with the Kenosha Police Department being called in to help with the search for Andrew Obregon.

"Anything the sheriff department needs from us, any resources or personnel, anything like that. We're certainly there to provide that to them," said Kenosha Police Department Lieutenant Brad Hetlet.

Officers are also part of the drug unit being used as the sheriff has said Obregon is a known drug addict. They are on call if there is a sighting of him.

"They need additional personnel to make a containment or arrest, or establish a perimeter, we'll certainly have our officer respond to that area," said Lieutenant Hetlet.

The last sighting was on a farm off of 18th Street in Brighton. The land owners say Obregon is familiar with their property and led law enforcement on a high-speed chase.

"He's able to go through these fields and drive stolen cars in most cases and get away from the officers and hide," said Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth.

But that may be more difficult, as it's now harvest time in Kenosha County. Many crops are coming down and exposing open land -- including the fields Obregon was last seen driving through.

The family who owns the cornfield that Obregon drove through, say they had 40-acres of corn still standing when Obregon eluded police. They were out on Friday afternoon working to bring some of it down.

The Racine County Sheriff's Department is also helping with this investigation.
