Mount Pleasant police: One dead, one injured after motorcycle crash near 25th & Racine

MOUNT PLEASANT -- One person is dead and another seriously hurt following a motorcycle crash near 25th and Racine Street in Mount Pleasant.

The call to police came in shortly before 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 10th.

When the South Shore Fire Department arrived at the scene, they found the driver of the motorcycle, 51-year-old Michael Brown of Racine, suffering serious injuries. He was transported to Wheaton Franciscan Hospital before being air lifted to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee for treatment of his injuries. Brown's condition is unknown at this time.

Police say it was quickly determined the female passenger on the motorcycle, 54-year-old Connie Benetez, died suddenly after the crash.

Both riders were not wearing helmets.

Authorities suspect alcohol and speed were a factor in this crash. The exact circumstances relating to the crash have not yet been determined.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing and is being conducted by the Mount Pleasant Police Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
