"We couldn't pass it up:" Hundreds line up to get a glimpse of Saint Maria Goretti

ELM GROVE -- Hundreds of people stand in line in Elm Grove to witness a very rare display. They came from all over the state to see the remains of Saint Maria Goretti at St. Mary's Visitation Parish on Sunday, October 18th.

Goretti was an 11-year-old girl in Italy in 1902, when she was attacked and stabbed by a neighbor who tried to sexually assault her. She forgave him on her death bed.

She was made a saint in 1950, and became the youngest saint in the church's history.

"It's really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I don't know that my husband and I will ever be able to fulfill the dream of going to Italy someday and being able to do something like this there and it's right here in our home state, hours away from our home -- we couldn't pass it up," said Samantha Parkers, Stevens Point resident.

Late last week, the display was in Madison.
