Two hit-and-run crashes in two-day period has some pleading with drivers to "please slow down"

MILWAUKEE -- Two hit-and-run crashes in Milwaukee within a two-day period has some warning drivers to slow down! This, as police work to find the drivers of two striking vehicles.

26th and Locust

The latest hit-and-run crash occurred on Monday night, October 26th near 26th and Locust.

Police were called out to the intersection shortly before 8:00 p.m.

A 53-year-old man was hit while walking in the area. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

This incident occurred just one day after an 89-year-old Milwaukee woman, identified as Geraldine McBride was hit near 90th and Bender.

This incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 25th.

McBride was taken to a hospital -- where she died from her injuries.

Police on Monday released a photo and video showing the actual striking vehicle in this case, in the hopes that someone can help police identify the driver.

"I've heard about a lot of hit-and-runs lately, and that's why I'm getting the message: Please slow down," Willie Davis said.

Davis was at the scene near 26th and Locust on Monday night.

"I actually told my wife that somebody got hit, and so I came down and helped him out. Stayed there, flagged down the police until they got there, made sure another car wouldn`t hit him," Davis said.

Despite the warnings and encouragement to slow down, some say the dangerous driving persists.

"They`re not driving slowly. A lot of times their systems are so loud," Patricia Till said.

"What's going on with all these hit-and-runs?" Rachel Graham said.

Erik McBride, the victim's grandson, tells FOX6 News his grandmother was out on one of her daily walks when the crash happened.

"Why would you leave? What are you leaving from? The truth? I think everybody around here is just feeling a little uneasy. You know, a little upset. Everybody seems like they`re kind of...kind of in a daze, just kinda figuring things out as much as we are," Erik McBride said.

The family of the victim has $1,000 to offer as a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case.

Police haven't released a description of the striking vehicle in the hit-and-run near 26th and Locust.
