Racine mayor makes another push to get commuter rail service into his city

RACINE -- Racine's mayor is making another push to extend commuter rail service into his city.

On Tuesday, November 3rd, aldermen in Racine will vote on whether to fund a study that will look into the cost of extending Metra line service from Kenosha to Racine.

The Metra line runs to Chicago.

Mayor John Dickert says in order for Racine to be a successful and growing city, it needs a cost-effective form of transportation.

"We know where we're going. We know what we had in the past when we didn't do this. We had the highest unemployment. We had very little growth. We had very little economic development. It's time now to start putting Racine into the 21st century," Mayor Dickert said.

Mayor Dickert says this extension was also talked about in 2007 and 2011.

The study would cost about $30,000 -- and must be approved by the Racine Common Council.
