Composite sketch of driver in hit-and-run crash

TOWN OF POLK -- The Washington County Sheriff's Office released on Wednesday, November 4th a composite sketch of a person they suspect in a hit-and-run crash that happened in the Town of Polk last weekend.

Officials say they received a 911 call reporting the crash just before 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 1st. The caller reported a pedestrian had been struck by a motor vehicle on Mayfield Rd. just north of Western Ave.

The caller reported that he saw the 79-year-old victim walking near a mailbox -- and that a southbound SUV struck the man. The caller indicated the suspect stopped his vehicle and briefly spoke with the caller while the victim remained lying in the roadway. The suspect then got back into his car and turned the vehicle around and fled the scene at a high rate of speed.

The victim was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment of his injuries. They are not believed to be life threatening.

The caller/witness was later able to help authorities with descriptions of the vehicle involved in this case -- as well as the suspect.

The operator is described as a male, white, with a darker complexion, in his mid-20s, 5'6" to 5'10" tall, with a thinner build and longer brown wavy hair. He was also described as clean-shaven.

The witness described the striking vehicle as a dark blue Saturn VUE (sport utility vehicle) similar to the one pictured to the left. It is not known at this time if there is any damage to the suspect vehicle. The victim was struck with the front of the vehicle and was on the hood of the SUV at one point.
