Drivers take note: GOP debate will force street closures, limit access & parking

MILWAUKEE -- Drivers will want to avoid part of downtown Milwaukee on Tuesday evening -- because of the Republican presidential debate.

The Milwaukee Police Department has already indicated Kilbourn Ave. and State St. will be closed from 4th through 6th Streets starting at noon. You can the flow of traffic in downtown Milwaukee and throughout southeast Wisconsin by visiting the FOX6 Interactive Traffic Map.

The GOP debate is a ticketed event, is sold out, and only those with tickets may enter the event. Access to the Milwaukee Theatre, the UWM Panther Arena, and adjacent sidewalks will be limited.  Those without a ticket to the debate will be prohibited from entering the facilities.

Those who wish to demonstrate or protest are asked to go to a predesignated area at the southwest corner of 4th and Kilbourn Avenue.

Those who are attending the Milwaukee Bucks game on Tuesday evening should enter from the north to access the Bradley Center to ease pedestrian movement.

Parking in areas near the BMO Harris Bradley Center and Milwaukee Theatre will be in high demand.  Those coming to the area are asked to plan ahead by allowing extra travel time, prepare to walk several blocks to the events, or use public transportation.

MPD will have extra officers in the area to ensure safety and security, and to assist the public during the event.
