Join the Christmas Clearing Council, help provide gifts to families in need

PEWAUKEE -- Christmas is one of Shelly Conrad's favorite holidays and this year she's shopping for more than her own children.

"As a mom myself, I just want to help out another mom -- maybe lighten her load during the holidays and bring some joy to kids at Christmas," said Conrad.

Conrad is helping the Christmas Clearing Council brighten the holidays for the 4,700 children they assist who are living in poverty.

The organization has a sponsorship program.

"Call us and be matched with a family to do shopping with that family after they get a wish list and then deliver those gifts right to the family," said Christmas Clearing Council Executive Director Ruth Jones.

The children who are not matched with a sponsor get several toys collected through its red barrel toy drive.

This year the Christmas Clearing Council is launching its "Get Caught Red-Handed" social media campaign, asking people to post pictures of themselves wearing red gloves dropping off toys in the barrels.

"We thought it would be a way for the community to show us and to show their friends how they're participating in the aspect of giving," said Jones.
The red toy drop off barrels will be at 90 locations across Waukesha County until December 16th.

Those receiving the gifts have to live in Waukesha County and are referred to the program through social service agencies.
