High School Blitz Finale: WIAA State Championship

MADISON (WITI) -- Three WIAA  divisions played for football gold Friday at Camp Randall Stadium.

DIVISION 1: KIMBERLY VS. ARROWHEAD

The marquee matchup was a rematch between the D1 defending state champion, the Kimberly Papermakers and the Arrowhead Warhawks.  The teams went head to head until Arrowhead pulled away.  During the 3rd quarter they led 42-21, but Kimberly, yard by yard, kept fighting.  The Papermakers scored four unanswered touchdowns and defend their crown, Arrowhead takes home the silver ball for the second year in a row falling to Kimberly 49-42.

DIVISION 2: WAUKESHA WEST VS. HOMESTEAD

The Homestead Highlanders came to Madison to play on Friday.  They open the game against The Waukesha West Wolverines with 3 unanswered touchdowns.  West gets on the board in the 3rd quarter, but the Highlanders are dialed in.  They take home the coveted gold ball, beating the Wolverines, 28-12.  The Championship is Head Coach Dave Keel's 5th with the Highlanders.

DIVISION 3: NOTRE DAME VS. CATHOLIC MEMORIAL

The sun was shining Friday morning as the Division 3 championship game kicked off at 10 a.m.  The Catholic Memorial Crusaders controlled the first quarter scoring a touchdown and kicking a field goal for a 10-0 lead.  But the tables turned in the second quarter and Notre Dame evened the score.  In the third quarter the Crusaders took the lead with less than six minutes to play.  But it was Notre Dame who strikes last, theTritons score a touchdown late in the fourth quarter and that sealed their fate.  Catholic Memorial falls, 19-17.

That wraps up the WIAA Football State Championship for 2015.  The #21 ranked Badgers take back Camp Randall Saturday, taking on #20 Northwestern.
