Steamfitters Training School: On-the-job training with classroom instruction



MILWAUKEE -- Training men and women for over 100 years to work in the pipefitting industry. Steamfitters UA Local 601 represents the Journeymen, Apprentices and Helpers, who work in the Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Process Piping Industry in the Southern Wisconsin area. Chip spent the morning at the Milwaukee Training Center.



Apprenticeship Program (website)

Apprenticeship is a formal training program registered through the State of Wisconsin, Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards.  Apprenticeship combines on-the-job training with classroom instruction.  Each apprenticeship program is 5 years in length providing the apprentice with comprehensive knowledge of the trade while working towards a career with great wages and benefits.

Apprentices learn under the supervision of a journey level skilled person, while working for an approved contractor.  Apprentices also attend classes at the Steamfitters Training School and an approved Technical College.
