WALWORTH COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash in Walworth County has left an 83-year-old Village of Bloomfield man dead.

The accident occurred on Thursday morning, November 26th just before 11:00 a.m.

According to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, initial investigation shows 83-year-old Richard Lewandowski was traveling westbound on Mound Road in a 2009 grey Hyundai, when he pulled out from a stop sign into the path of a 2006 white Ford van.

Authorities say the van, driven by a 26-year-old Elkhorn man, was traveling northbound on Highway F with the right of way when it struck into Lewandowski’s vehicle.

Lewandowski was pronounced dead at the scene by the Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The driver of the van received minor injuries.

The drivers were the only occupants in both vehicles.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit is now investigating.

This was definitely a tragedy. The roads were shut down for several hours. Our family lives on 3 corners of this intersection. Living right here and seeing the aftermath right afterwards was hard. My prayers go out to the family of the gentleman that lost his life and to the gentleman of the van. It is a very bad intersection for accidents. My boyfriends aunt was killed there years ago right after leaving home. But for these families to remember this every Thanksgiving. May the Lord comfort them with his loving arms.
