Deep discounts abound: Holiday shoppers declare, "It actually feels really good"

WAUWATOSA -- Sleep-deprived shopping and deep discounts -- it's quite the combination. The craving for Black Friday deals in the Milwaukee area is in full swing -- and it started on Thanksgiving morning.

Hundreds of people lined up at the Wauwatosa Meijer's before 6 a.m. on Thursday, November 26th to secure a golden ticket. It guaranteed shoppers the opportunity to buy a 49-inch television for just $169.

Only 50 people walked away with the deal. The rest prayed someone's credit card does not go through. You might call it a "Survival of the Fittest" kind of shopping.

"It actually feels really good. I called my sister and told her I got the ticket when I got in the store. So she said, 'You got my TV!' And I was like, 'Yes!'" said Gloria Chism, a holiday shopper.

This is Meijer's first Thanksgiving open in the Milwaukee area. They compete with other retail giants like Walmart and Target.

"We sell drones here and we sell drumsticks. So you can get anything you need at Meijer," said Tom Livernois, Wauwatosa Meijer Store Director.

Black Friday deals run through the weekend. But there are those who live for the craziness -- and it's not even close to being over.

"I am going to shop every day if I can," said Margie Jordan, an excited shopper.

"Today, tomorrow, whatever sales they have got," said Chism.

Meijer does things a little differently than most retailers. For some Black Friday deals, they will sell an item at full price -- and give you a store credit for your next shopping trip. Officials say the store credit is typically more money than you would save buying that same item at a Black Friday discount elsewhere.
