"A nice way to give back:" Get in the holiday spirit, be a Santa to a senior

MEQUON -- The hustle and bustle of the holiday shopping season has begun and Peggy Anderson is adding one extra person to her list.

"The holiday spirit is partly about giving and I think it's a nice way to give back to our community and forgotten seniors," said Anderson.

She's participating in the "Be a Santa to a Senior" program through Home Instead Senior Care.

"We saw a need for seniors that did not have family nearby or did not have any children at all and we wanted to bring a little cheer to their life," said Home Instead Senior Care Branch Manager Penelope Vogel.

Christmas trees have been put up in Walgreens stores with paper ornaments hung with a name and gift idea for a senior.

"Crossword puzzles, to magazines, to candies, to lip gloss," said Vogel.

Those gifts can be purchased and dropped off in a bin right at Walgreens by December 8th. They'll be picked up, wrapped, and distributed the week of Christmas.

"I think it's nice to be remembered and not to be alone at Christmas," said Anderson.
