Construction crews strike gas line in Shorewood; residents briefly evacuated

SHOREWOOD -- We Energies crews were on the scene of a gas leak in Shorewood on Monday, December 14th -- for the second time in less than a week.

We're told a construction crew struck a steel natural gas main near Downer and Stratford in Shorewood.

The flow of gas was shut off by We Energies officials. As a result, 60 customers were without natural gas service.

We Energies crews also "de-energized" electric lines in the area for a time, and 3,500 customers lost electric service.

Power was restored.

We Energies crews were then working to repair the line. Then, gas flow would be restored to the area.

On Friday, crews responded to reports of a gas main struck near N. Downer and Edgewood Avenue in Shorewood.
