MADACC to waive adoption fees for all dogs and cats from December 15th to January 10th

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) announced Tuesday, December 15th that adoption fees for all dogs and cats in their adoption program will be waived from December 15 to January 10th during MADACC’s Second Home for the Holidays Adoption promotion.

MADACC is hoping this adoption promotion will encourage the community to choose to visit their facility this holiday season when considering adopting a new cat or dog.  Cats, kittens, and dogs over 40lbs make up most of the animals not reclaimed by owners, which become available for adoption to the community.

"Our goal this month is to find homes for each and every healthy, adoptable dog and cat in our facility,” said Karen Sparapani, executive director for MADACC. “Many families decide the holidays are the perfect time to bring home a new family member. We want to make sure that our animals get the opportunity to be one of those lucky animals and thanks to Stan Kass we can make that happen.”

MADACC is able to hold this event after receiving a special gift from Skylark Vending specifically to be used for an impactful adoption event. The Kass family is very passionate about promoting shelter animal adoptions, as they are the proud adopters of Reggie, a shepherd mix they adopted from Wisconsin Humane Society. They want everyone to be able to experience the joy of bringing home a shelter animal so they gave this gift to MADACC to sterilize, vaccinate, and microchip around 150 animals so that they will be able to be adopted into new families.

"Adopting an animal from MADACC means you’re saving a life and taking home a dog or cat that has been fully vetted and ready to be loved,” Sparapani continued. “It is so important to our community to have as many animals as possible spayed and neutered, up to date on important vaccines that prevent parvovirus, distemper and rabies, as well as having a microchip to ensure that if your animal is ever lost; you can quickly be reunited with your pet. Choosing to adopt a shelter animal is not only beneficial for the new pet’s parent or family, it also helps fight pet overpopulation in our community and, in turn, helps save more lives.”

Waived adoption fees include spay/neuter surgery, microchip, and up-to-date vaccines. A $12 license fee will apply for all Milwaukee County residents. Adopters must complete in-person adoption counseling. If you are adopting a dog, and have a resident dog(s) at home, a meeting between the dogs will be necessary before bringing your new dog home.

MADACC is open seven days a week, but will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. Adoptions can be done every day of the week. All adopters are encouraged to fill out an application to be pre-approved before they come in, however, walk-ins are always welcome.
You can find the adoption application and more information on their website at www.madacc.org or by calling 414-649-8640.
