Badgers Interim Head Coach Greg Gard not planning any wholesale changes at Wisconsin

MADISON — Wisconsin interim coach Greg Gard isn't planning any wholesale changes with the Badgers.

There might a few tweaks here and there.

But Gard said the principles that made Wisconsin successful under Bo Ryan are time-tested. The Badgers under Ryan were known for a methodical style that relied on tough defense and efficient offense.

Ryan had been talking retirement for months. But the timing of his announcement after Tuesday night's win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi still came as a surprise.

Ryan retired immediately. Gard, a longtime assistant, was made the interim coach. Gard effectively has a three-month audition to keep the job permanently.

When asked how that might affect his ability to get the job full-time, Gard said he was more worried about the day-to-day goals of improving a young team that is 7-5 so far.

Wisconsin reached the Final Four in each of the last two seasons.
