Milwaukee YMCA may close branch as campaign comes up $1.3M short

MILWAUKEE -- FOX6′s media partners at the Milwaukee Business Journal are reporting that the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee is likely to fall about $1.3 million short of the goal for its first fundraising campaign since Chapter 11 reorganization, which could lead to program cuts and possibly facility closings.

One possible solution for filling the gap in this year’s campaign will be seeking “venture philanthropy” — one-time donations from the area’s leading foundations, corporate and individual charitable givers, president and CEO Julie Tolan said Wednesday in an interview with the Milwaukee Business Journal.

“We’re at a tipping point from a meaningful loss to a really devastating loss like closing facilities,” Tolan said. “It is not too soon to say there are some very real and very painful possibilities that loom before us.”
