Dave Baldwin, who started and operated the Safe House, has passed away at 84

MILWAUKEE -- Dave Baldwin, who started and operated downtown Milwaukee's iconic spy-themed Safe House restaurant, passed away on Sunday, December 20th.

Baldwin was 84 years old.

Baldwin started the popular restaurant nearly 50 years ago before selling it to the dining and entertainment arm of The Marcus Corp. earlier this year.

The Safe House is located in an alley off East Wells Street -- hiding behind a door labeled International Exports Ltd.

A password is required to gain entry.

The restaurant also includes the Newsroom Pub, the home of the Milwaukee Press Club.

Milwaukee Press Club officials issued this statement:

We are sorry to hear of the death of Safe House creator and long-time operator Dave Baldwin. Dave partnered with the Press Club on the development of the Newsroom Pub, and was a great friend of the club. We added him to the club’s Circle of the Knights of Bohemia in 2010.
