MILWAUKEE -- Two men are dead after a two-vehicle collision at Sherman and Roosevelt on Milwaukee's north side. The vehicle that slammed into them was stolen, and now, two people are in custody.
"My first thought was someone had got killed. And, you know, later on I found out it was true," Albert Patterson said.
Police say the crash happened around 9:30 a.m.
Prior to that, officers attempted a traffic stop of the stolen SUV near Sherman and Burleigh. The driver refused to stop and fled. MPD was not involved in a pursuit related to this incident.
The SUV eventually struck a tan four-door sedan at Sherman and Roosevelt.
The driver and passenger of the car, a 57-year-old man and a 59-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the SUV, 21 and 22-year-old women from Milwaukee, were arrested on scene. They were transported to Froedtert Hospital with serious injuries.
"They're in custody. We know who they are now. We are investigating the stolen auto as well as the subsequent fatal accident," Captain Jutiki Jackson with the Milwaukee Police Department said.
The investigation is ongoing and the case will be presented to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
