Reedsburg church music director accused of sexual assault of teen girl takes his own life

REEDSBURG — Police say a Reedsburg church music director has killed himself after he was charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl who was a choir member.

Officers went to check on the welfare of 48-year-old David Knoble Wednesday morning. As officers approached the front door, they heard a gunshot from inside. Police forced their way in and found Knoble dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Knoble was accused of having sexual contact with the girl for more than a year, beginning when she was 16. Knoble denied the charges to investigators.

The Barabaoo News Republic says it's not the first time Knoble has been accused of having sexual contact with a music student. He faced similar charges more than a decade ago while working as a middle school music instructor.
