Cause of fire that resulted in deaths of elderly couple ruled undetermined, investigation closed

KENOSHA -- Investigators have not been able to come up with a definitive cause of a fire that killed a Kenosha couple in November.

Fire officials say the cause of the fire is undetermined, and the investigation has been closed.

80-year-old James Adamson and his 77-year-old wife Rita Adamson died as a result of the fire. Rita Adamson was pronounced dead at the scene. James Adamson died on November 5th at St. Mary's Burn Center in Milwaukee.

Residents who live on either side of the townhouse where the fire occurred haven't been able to return to their homes.

Insurance issues have postponed cleanup of smoke damage in those homes.

The fire happened on November 3rd on 54th Street.

The call came for help at the condo building near Harbor Park came in around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday after neighbors reported hearing an explosion and saw flames. When crews arrived on scene, the condo was fully engulfed in flames. Officers began to evacuate nearby condos while fire department personnel brought the fire under control.

We Energies officials confirmed natural gas did not play a role in this fire.
