Two in custody, two others sought in shooting death of five-year-old in Beloit
BELOIT -- Beloit police say two suspects are in custody, and two others are sought in connection with the fatal shooting of a five-year-old boy that happened on Friday night, January 22nd.
Police on Thursday afternoon, January 28th said they had identified a new suspect in this case based on information received via a tip line that was set up on Wednesday -- 18-year-old Hugo Martinez of Belot.
Police arrested Martinez Thursday night after asking for the public's help locating him earlier Thursday.
Ramos Jr. was shot and killed while traveling in a vehicle with his father. Police said an SUV pulled up alongside his father's car, and someone opened fire.
The boy was shot at least once in the abdomen.
Police said on Thursday the intended target in this shooting was Ramos Jr.'s father, Austin Ramos Sr.
The motive for this shooting remains under investigation.
Police said earlier Thursday they had recovered the suspect SUV in this case. It was located abandoned in Rock County. Police were able to recover the vehicle thanks to a tip -- and it was being processed for evidence.
On Wednesday, 24-year-old Isaac Torres was arrested in McHenry County, Illinois on his birthday on an outstanding felony warrant for substantial battery in connection with an incident that happened on October 19th. A warrant was issued for Torres' arrest on November 13th.
He was extradited to Wisconsin.
Police said Torres has been booked into jail on an additional felony homicide as party to a crime charge in connection with the shooting death of Austin Ramos Jr.
The other two suspects being sought in this case are Eric Salazar-Mota and Sergio Ortiz-Raygoza. They are wanted for homicide as party to a crime.
Federal authorities are assisting in the search for these three suspects who remain at large.
Police said it is believed Salazar Moto and Ortiz Recugsa may have fled the state.
In addition to these four suspects, police said there are others that they'd like to interview in this case.
Since the tip line was set up on Wednesday, police said they've received well over 20 tips.
