24-year-old woman dies at the hospital after colliding with tree at Cascade Mountain

PORTAGE — A 24-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the hospital after colliding with a tree at the Cascade Mountain Ski Hill in Portage.

The incident happened on Saturday, February 6th around 10:30 a.m.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an injured person needing assistance at Cascade Mountain. Initial reports were that the person was a skier who had struck a tree.

The 24-year-old female skier was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Her name hasn’t been released.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, though sheriff’s officials say this incident appears to be accidental in nature.
